Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels: How do they work?

Chemical peels are one of the most popular and versatile cosmetic treatments available today. Peels can be used to improve the texture and tone of the skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and age spots, and even out complexion.

There are three different types of chemical peels-light, medium and deep. Light peels are often referred to as lunchtime peels because they can be performed in less than an hour and there is no downtime required afterwards. Medium peels penetrate deeper into the skin and usually require about 2 weeks of recovery time. Deep peels penetrate the deepest layer of skin and require 6-8 weeks of recovery time.

Light Peel Benefits

Light peels are perfect for those who want to achieve brighter, smoother skin with minimal downtime. A light peel can be performed in as little as 30 minutes and you can usually return to your normal activities immediately afterwards. Light peels use gentle acids to remove the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing fresh, new skin underneath.

Medium Peel Benefits

A medium peel penetrates deeper into the skin than a light peel, which results in more dramatic results. Medium peels can improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scars and other types of scarring. Medium peels usually take about 2 weeks to heal fully.

Deep Peel Benefits

Deep peels provide the most dramatic results but also come with the longest recovery time. Deep peels should only be performed by a licensed medical professional such as a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Deep peels can improve the appearance of severe sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines and scarring. Recovery from a deep peel usually takes 6-8 weeks.
